— from Josie and Wally Barrow —
We cannot believe how fortunate we are to live in such a caring community!! We want to thank you…so many, who have given clothing, food and other things to us since our house burned to the ground on Sunday night.
Also..and really first of all, we thank our wonderful volunteer Fire Dept. who were able to save the garage and the studio. We have also had so many messages of love and concern, and offers of guest houses etc. we are just amazed. Currently we are staying in a neighbors guest house and are doing quite well.
My reminder to all of you is MAKE SURE your smoke alarms are working and that you have good escape routes….

Dear Josie and Wally; anyone who has met you or knows you, knows that you are Island Treasures! Your upbeat positive attitude sparks awe; and you are loved by many here. Condolences for your losses and most of all – we’re so glad you are OK and that your smoke alarm was working!
Thank you so much for the message about smoke alarms. Many people live in apartment houses on second stories. It’s unnerving and worrisome to see how many people unplug/disconnect their smoke alarms. People on upper floors have no alternate routes of escape. Please be neighborly – keep your smoke alarms operable. If yours is TOO sensitive, ask your landlord or owner to replace it – then use it and keep it connected. Working smoke alarms save lives. The Barrows are proof!
