— from Rachel Brewer, OIHS ‘16 —

Last Thursday evening the Orcas Center screened the National Theatre Live’s production of “Hamlet” with Benedict Cumberbatch in the eponymous role. The public high school’s AP English class is currently studying “Hamlet,” and we attended as a group.

For most of us, this was our first time seeing “Hamlet” performed on stage, and Cumberbatch’s performance, the company’s interpretation, and the gorgeous set gave us a whole new perspective of the famous play. The Orcas Center is a wonderful resource because it provides us with the opportunity to see amazing professional theatre in the midst of our rural environment. I am certain that my classmates and I will always remember Cumberbatch embodying Hamlet onscreen at the Orcas Center.
