I am writing to support Ron Krebs for sheriff. He was first elected to clean up a mess in the Sheriffs office and he has done a commendable job. Fortunately we on Waldron have little contact with the Sheriffs office but he did make the effort to come over to speak with us several times. And he continues to be accessible by phone or in person when we visit Friday Harbor.
I note that he still has the support of an almost unanimous Sheriffs Guild. I point out the “still” because in the video of the League of Women Voters debate on San Juan his opponent attributed this endorsement to all the pressure that the Sheriff can put on the Deputies to gain their support. However when Ron ran against an incumbent in 2014 a very large majority of the Deputies Guild endorsed him. I doubt that Sheriff Krebs is Machiavellian enough to corral all of those votes by use of the authority of his position. I think that the Sheriffs Guild, like me think he is doing a good job and a better one than his opponent.
