[Sunday] morning Fareed Zakaria called America’s handling of the CV19 vaccination program “a haphazardous rollout.” Has anyone besides my wife and I tried the County’s CV19 Eligibility and Application websites? We would have to agree with Fareed that its “Websites to Nowhere” aptly fit his “haphazardous rollout” description.

Man do people love to complain. Does anyone else not have an appreciation for how hard this stuff is? Especially with next to no plan or help from the federal government?
Hey local County Health Department, could you please manage an entire pandemic response and then oh also roll out a vaccine scheduling website with almost no time for development or troubleshooting. And if it is even mildly inconvenient, we will complain nonstop. It matters not to us that San Juan County has one of the lowest rates of COVID infection in the Country thanks to the response from our local Health Department, your website was not perfect so you are failing us.
Don’t forget that they’re doing all this on a limited budget, in a year of falling tax revenues due to a worldwide pandemic, so as to be fiscally responsible to our community.
Chill…remember when a vaccine by this time was an exaggerated false promise?
This is not rocket science. As a nation, we have the technology and have a lot of experience making it work in the very large and complicated international supply chains used by our largest companies. Why are we having so much difficulty? I think that the problem is consumer uncertainty. When I order something from Amazon, they tell me when it will arrive, at least within a day or two. If I am worried, I can easily check status of my shipment whether via FedEx, UPS, or even USPS. If my shipment is somehow delayed, I am notified and given a new delivery date.
Here, we don’t know how many doses SJC will be getting, when it will arrive, or what chance we have to even make a reservation. This system is worse than the ferry system where I at least know how many slots are available and have three chances to make a reservation!
Wait a minute Henry, there has been LOTS of time to figure this thing out. You are all right; it is not rocket science. We have all been sitting around waiting and someone in the County was supposed to be planning this. I, for one, refuse to play the game of going on the website over and over again, only to be told No appointments left. Crazy people have been not running things for so long we have become used to it. Enough already.
After the experience today of almost getting a reservation at 5pm but not being fast enough filling out the form to be able to nail down the proffered slot, I can only guess at how many others were similarly discouraged. Probably thousands — and for just 200 slots. The problem we are facing is one of meager supply and much more massive demand. We stand at the distant end of a long, narrow hose, through which only a trickle of vaccine is flowing, all trying to drink from it at the same moment.
Blame VCITA, the business management app company that the County hired. “Build a business you’re proud of.
Manage clients, appointments & payments from one single app.” Well, we’re NOT proud! FIRE THEM!!
