||| FROM ORCAS ISLAND PARK AND RECREATION DISTRICT |||
It took until the final counting of the ballots, but the voters of Orcas Island came through for the Orcas island Park and Recreation District!
Your approval of the recent six-year levy proposition will not only allow us to begin moving forward with our regular programing, but also allow us to begin making necessary upgrades and repairs at Buck Park. As our community has embraced the benefits of getting out and enjoying the beauty of Orcas Island, the need to assure that spaces are available and accessible has become more important.
We appreciate the vote of confidence that you have given and more importantly, look forward to your input as we implement further improvements and changes. Thank you to everyone for your support and we look forward to continuing to serve our community.

By far the best elected board in San Juan County! The future of Orcas Park & Rec is in great hands. Thank you all for your service to the community.
I appreciate in particular the Board’s request for citizen input for “further improvements and services”. The popularity of the broad scope of facilities and services at Buck Park is underscored by the high usage by islanders (and visitors) of all ages.
As a consequence of this popularity and high usage, the entry drive and parking lot is in dire straits and in desperate need of some serious TLC.
While I appreciate recent efforts to fill potholes, the improvement was short lived. Hopefully funds are available to bring in a grader, roller, and new material to restore the lot to serviceable condition.
