— from Lena Kassa for Orcas Senior Center —
The Orcas Senior Center (OSC) legendary Spring Brunch held March 31 was a tremendous success, raising more than $2,600 in support of Meals on Wheels and More for seniors and people with disabilities on Orcas Island. Chef Christina Orchid, Jay Savell, and Ian Cassinos served up 175 scrumptious meals including eggs benedict, Louisiana-style French toast and more! OSC is grateful to the local performing artists whose vocal, piano, and guitar offerings added to the festive atmosphere and good times.
Last year, the Senior Nutrition program provided regular meals to more than 400 Senior Community Meals participants and 100 Meals on Wheels participants. Food security is essential to good health and reduces seniors’ need for nursing home care. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver three hot meals a week to our home-bound neighbors. If you missed the brunch, donations to support this essential service may be made by calling OSC at 360-376-2677 or donating online at www.orcasseniors.org.

Thank you Orcas for supporting Meals on the Wheels and More program! As a point of clarification, all funds raised went to support the Orcas Senior Center nonprofit, which is a separate entity from County Seniior Services. The OSC nonprofit does not receive tax dollars and depends on your support for its existence and good works.
Similarly, this weekend’s Seniors Have Talent fundraiser will support the nonprofit organization’s work to provide services for seniors allowing them to age well and safely at home here on Orcas Island. The nonprofit is grateful to volunteers and neighbors who make these services possible.
