As a long-time resident and pilot on Orcas Island, please join me in voting for: Clyde A Duke, Poke Haffner, Bea vonTobel, and Mia Kartiganer.
Let’s keep the Port of Orcas a civil and professional group of concerned citizens safeguarding our Airport.

Myrna’s slate looks good to me as well.
Myrna,
I respect your support of the candidates who you feel are best qualified to be leading our Port. This is a critical part of our democracy. However, as one of the candidates, I am concerned that your letter indicates you believe electing candidates other than those listed would lead to a commission that is not civil or professional, or able to safeguard our Port.
I believe I am a civil and professional person – as physician, EMT, firefighter and as a businessman. I have been a resident of Orcas Island for 13 years. I would appreciate the opportunity to serve as Port Commissioner and I will be a good steward of our Port.
Given we have not had the opportunity to meet and discuss your concerns, I am not sure how you have drawn your conclusions about my values and professional conduct. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you, and other concerned citizens. My website http://www.ElectAyers.org also has some information about me and my actual beliefs and values.
Best regards,
Greg
I have witnessed most port meetings for the last year++ Pierrette Guimond shows up consistently, & her contributions are always on point. She’s not about wheeling & dealing & joking, she’s about protecting our rural airport in the face of doublespeak & hidden agendas. Pierrette Guimond has the smarts and courage to stand up for us, the public and the land. Please join me in shifting the power on the port commission by electing the fresh perspective Pierrette brings.
Hmmm….how about “safeguarding’ the community around the airport?
The Port of Orcas Primary is only for seat 1, which had been appointed to Clyde Duke. Anytime there are more than two candidates for a seat, a Primary must happen.
There are 3 candidates: Clyde Duke & Pierrette Guimond are the active candidates. Heidi LaPuzza, a Kenmore employee, pulled out of the race past the withdrawal due date. If she had withdrawn before the deadline, there would be no Port primary. Her name will remain on the Primary ballot because it’s too late to remove it.
I’m not sure the dollar amount for the late withdrawal fee, but I have heard something to the tune of $2000, and according to Elections, the Port is going to have to help pay for her withdrawal; I’m not sure what percentage; something to find out.
Look.
All we want is a governing body that fairly represents the diverse values of the public they are to represent and transparently goes about creating a plan that respects our interests in a shared future.
“Scrap the ‘Plan!'”
It is more important that individuals appointed create a balanced approach on the Commission at large, than that we necessarily “like” any of them. It is better that we have honest disagreement where there is a lack of informed consensus than that we have the smoke screen of unity masking inappropriate private agendas.
“Scrap the ‘Plan!'”
Those that make the rounds of our governing bodies reaping the personal benefits of cronyism while sacrificing their integrity as public representatives are given notice: “Stop.”
We’re watching, and we’ve figured you out.
“Scrap the ‘Plan!'”
[and replant those trees!]
