Although I acknowledge that we here in San Juan County are fortunate to have two strong candidates running for County Council District 3, I have decided to endorse Katherine Bryant Ingman for the position.
I appreciate Katherine’s energy, and I see her as an independent thinker, which I believe is something we need in our County Council members. Katherine is young, but I think that is an advantage, and she has shown herself to be an active, energetic, and helpful leader. She has demonstrated in multiple ways her commitment to the wellbeing of people in our County, including during the pandemic, when things became especially challenging.
I share the priorities of so many San Juan County residents: how our state ferries are functioning, prioritizing healthcare, ensuring effective emergency response planning, affordable housing, food security, and supporting local farmers. As a longtime environmental educator, I strongly believe we must prioritize caring for and preserving the ecology of which we are all a part, which attracts so many people to these islands, and which we all influence by our presence in this beautiful and fragile environment.
I believe that Katherine will bring a level of energy and forward thinking that we in San Juan County need at this time.
