Ms. Wolf advocates:
- Adding another layer of government to, and defunding, the Sheriff’s Department. (theOrcasonian 06.24.20). As Vice-Chair of SJC Democrats per resolution calling for a Citizens Advisory Council and “Rearranging the Budget” in every community in this country.
- Empowering white college educated women with “authority to grant and take away power. “ (theOrcasonian 09.29.18) Power to “exact a high price” from whom and for what? Whoever she dislikes, doesn’t share her views?
- Imposing quotas which require segregating the population into recipient groups. (theOrcasonian 11.01.19) “I like quotas, as they hold people to measurable accountability, but if we cannot have quotas, let’s institutionalize the idea of fairness. “How about equal protection / opportunity instead, as institutionalized in the 14th Amendment?
Is this the temperament and judgment we need on the Council? Or do we just need the potholes fixed, the snow plowed and advocacy for our neighbors to work as they choose?

As Vice-Chair of the SJC Democrats, was Cindy Wolf involved in the party’s decision to endorse Kevin Ranker for Charter Review Commission?
I appreciate the references, and I will use them.
To answer Brian’s question, no, Cindy was not on our endorsement committee nor did she do any research for us on whom to support.
Evidently Mr. Peterson finds the notion that “white college educated women” might have the “power” to exercise “authority” quite alarming.
How amusing.
I’m going outside now.
This must be the same Phil Peterson who commented on Hedrick Smith’s article (10/18/20): “Trump Administration saved approx 2 million Americans” [from Covid-19].
As they say in the academic world, PNA (Pay No Attention).
You said that Cindy Wolf is an advocate for, “Adding another layer of government to…”, and a “resolution calling for a Citizens Advisory Council…”
I say, “Yes! Citizen involvement in government is good government.”
You said Cindy Wolf is an advocate for, “Empowering white college educated women with “authority to grant and take away power.“
I say, “All women have a right to be in all places where decisions are made in society.”
You said that Cindy is an advocate for, “Imposing quotas which require segregating the population into recipient groups.”
I say, “Like many things being spun in SJC politics today the truth is 180 opposite from what you’re saying… the truth is that SJC continues to follow in the known footsteps of other communities before us, leading us down an elitist path towards the gentrifying & homogenization of our local communities. I say that a governmental body that is unwilling to impose needed limits is irresponsible government.”
You said, “Is this the temperament and judgment we need on the Council? Or do we just need the potholes fixed, the snow plowed and advocacy for our neighbors to work as they choose?”
I say, “Yes, Cindy Wolf is exactly the temperament that SJC desperately needs in our leadership today… making short-term fixes that enrich a few while making long-term problems for others has been a fundamental flaw of, and is one of the greatest underlying problems in regards to SJC’s current leadership.”
Well put, Michael, and let me add that Cindy has endorsed the extremely popular moratorium on new transient vacation rentals, while Rick (and the other commissioners) have repeatedly dithered and dragged his feet on it. She also advocates putting a firm cap on them and has good ideas about how to reduce their numbers from the level to which they have swollen due to Council neglect.
Phil — I’m gobsmacked to read that you’re suggesting in 2020 (not 1920) that there is something amiss with “Empowering white college educated women with “authority to grant and take away power. “ Seriously? SMH (smack my head). I can only imagine what you think about empowering non-white college educated women, or god forbid, non-college educated women or people of any persuasion other than college educated white men.
DISINGENUOUS commentary from some of our brighter but doctrinaire resident elitists. Your worn-out gender wedge issue has nothing to do with it. The issue is POWER and how it is to be used locally, and you all know it! The links were provided to connect Ms. Wolf with her own words, her expressed intent, her support of ideas and her plan for allocation of POWER and benefits – her words, I’m just a messenger.
Is there room or need in our small county for more than a modest agenda providing for maintenance, necessary upgrades (ADA) and improved services (ferry). Or shall we indulge our resident political hobbyists with council platforms that only pollinate a nascent political machine comprised mainly of LEGACY Democrats ?
This is not your Mom’s Democratic party it’s an unholy alliance of Billionaires and Bolsheviks that are now suppressing open discussion and supporting a cognitively impaired puppet for President. The handmaidens in this disaster are the white college educated elites, like Cindy Wolf, who as they say in the academic world, pay no attention (PNA) to the lower life forms that they claim to champion.
For decades Democratic elites have thrown working Americans with blue collars, dirty hands and sweaty clothes under the bus and told them their jobs were never coming back. But a fellow with a degree in economics brought them back only to be tripped up by a pandemic that locked down the economy. When he called for it to reopen, the Governors said it was their call, not his. Some responded with economic pragmatism, lifted lockdowns facilitating recovery, others did not.
But the lower life forms are standing with the guy who renewed their self-respect and sense of self-worth, just as they stood with your Mom’s Democratic party and the guy who stood up (with braces) for the “little man”, the guy who told us not to fear.
Why did you abandon us?
White college-educated “elites”? Lower life forms? Really? Someone has a serious complex.
And Trump “renewed [your] self-respect and sense of self-worth? That deserves some explanation.
No, he’s a con man who sold you a bill of goods. (And that “economics” degree? He bought his way into school and likely bought his degree.).
Finally, please don’t associate Trump with FDR. That’s an insult to FDR.
You’re off point Margaret / Peg. The point is Democrat ruling elites abuse of governmental POWER to “punish” those with diverse views is insinuating itself into local “non-partisan” councils, school boards, commissions. Ms. Wolf has publically stated her view that this desireable which should be of concern to everyone in our county that values tolerance, freedom, diversity and inclusion. As for your attempt at misdirection, if I have a complex and I’ve been conned then I find myself in surprising company.
“You’re never going to be able to have a dialogue… win support from people who you treat like garbage, who you disrespect, who you call names, who you call deplorables. But how do you expect to lead as the president of every single American in this country when you’ve thrown half of them away?” Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D) Hawaii during Democratic primary debates
Trump “has done good stuff for the Black community, Opportunity Zone stuff, Black college stuff, I worked with him on criminal stuff, I saw Donald Trump have African American people, formally incarcerated, in the White House, embraced them, treated them well.” Van Jones CNN Commentator former Obama Adviser.
“I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, it left me.” Ronald Reagan, former union President (SAG)
According to dictionary.com, the definition of “elite” is:
(often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.
(used with a plural verb) persons of the highest class: Only the elite were there.
a group of persons exercising the major share of authority or influence within a larger group: the power elite of a major political party.
So the “elitists” are the billionaires, Trump and Charles Koch for example; the former with his widespread use of gold leaf and plating in his various properties, his manipulation of tax laws to avoid federal taxes. For some reason those on the right seem to ignore that fact, and instead brand those with expertise, who spent ten years in college to obtain their Doctorates and form their expertise as the “elites” we need to worry about.
Ronald Reagan presided over the Screen Actor’s Guild when his income benefited from it. He nearly tripled our national debt during his time in office, due in part to his “supply side economics” tax cuts, which didn’t work (cutting taxes with the goal of boosting the economy has never worked–check out what happened to the Kansas economy under Brownback’s tax cut “experiment” as a recent example).
Mr. Peterson: Would you explain this? “Democrat ruling elites abuse of governmental POWER to “punish” those with diverse views”–which “Democratic elites” have used which “governmental power” to punish who with diverse views??
P.S. I am not a Democrat, I’m independent, but I am really curious how this scary-sounding stuff could have gone on without me noticing.
