Two documents offer recommendations; Mt. Vernon Forum Tuesday, Feb. 19

From the Skagit County Child and Family Consortium

As you may know, the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) is hosting public forums across the state to hear ideas and suggestions regarding rule-making for legalizing marijuana. The WSLCB has the enormous task of creating many of the rules around production, processing, and sales of marijuana in our state.

The [Skagit County Child and Family ]Consortium has dedicated the last several meeting to learning more about this topic and discussing recommendations to provide to the WSLCB around what we would like to see in order to create a system that would be in the best interest of public health. Out of those meetings, came this dcoument onMarijuanaRule-makingSuggestions.

While we were working on creating our recommendation, the Washington Association of Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention (WASAVP) was developing their own list. Their document (click Provisions-to-Promote-Healthy-Children-and-Communities  to view the document) is very similar to ours and has been circulating around the state at many community and statewide meetings.

On Tuesday, February 19, the WSLCB is hosting a public forum here in Skagit County. It will be held at McIntyre Hall (2501 E College Way, Mount Vernon) from 6 – 10 p.m. See the agenda below. This is a great opportunity to have a voice in the creation of this new system.

Agenda

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Open house with Board and staff
7:00 – 7:05 p.m. Board welcome
7:05 – 7:15 p.m. Overview of Board’s Role
7:15 – 10:00 p.m. Public testimony

Additional information regarding the implementation of I-502, including a fact sheet, answers to frequently asked questions and a tentative timeline, is available on the WSLCB website at www.liq.wa.gov.
