— from Caroline Buchanan —
On the weekend of April 22-23, Caroline Buchanan will offer a watercolor workshop, Painting the Tulip Fields. Now that the tulips are finally blooming you may want to visit the fields and bring your photos and sketches to class. Or just come to the Olga Community Club and celebrate this annual spring event by painting the fields, flowers, clouds and sunshine from photos Caroline has collected from years of plein air painting in the Skagit valley. She will help you to design a pleasing composition and lead you through the steps to painting one or two watercolors. Saturday and Sunday, 9:30-3:30.
If you have always wanted to paint in watercolor or need to brush up on the basics, the week of May 8 is the once-a-year opportunity to get started. Class is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 9:30-3:00/3:30 at the Olga Community Club.
You learn how to work wet-on-wet letting colors flow and intermingle. You learn wet blending including how to handle light and color in modeling. You also learn the secrets to successful glazing, building up successive layers of color and you practice how to handle your brush to get the most out of your strokes.
