— from Carol Kulminski for Orcas Island Historical Museums —

The Orcas Island Historical Museums had big plans for our garden this year. Seeds had been ordered, weeding had begun, and we’d started to implement ambitious plans for our Heritage Garden, hatched after in-depth consultation with our plant history expert, Jean Dickerson. But like so many things over the last couple of months, all work on the garden had to be suspended.

Thanks to the Orcas Food Co-op, during the month of May, $1 from every curbside pick-up and home delivery box purchase will go to support the Museum’s Heritage Garden. We’re working to make the garden an outdoor extension of the museum. Plant IDs and interpretive signage will detail the history of the plants in the garden. We’ve been working with the Garden Club, Master Gardeners, and professional landscapers to ensure that the Heritage Garden will add a bit of beauty and history accessible outside to our community.

If you’d like to place an order for pickup or delivery from the Orcas Food Co-op, visit their online shop at www.orcas-food-coop.myshopify.com.

While the Museums are temporarily closed, your support matters now more than ever. You can help by renewing your membership, purchasing gift memberships, purchasing Museum store gift certificates, or by making a donation at www.orcasmuseums.org
