Kids dream big when they take the stage

Orcas Center presents two weeks  of theater for kids in June.

The first week, from June 20 to June 24, will be called “Glee!” after the popular TV show. From 9:30 a.m.to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, kids will learn songs and choreography from such musicals as “Mama Mia!” “Next to Normal,” “Wicked,” “Avenue Q” and “Hairspray” with the Musical Director from Village Theatre, Karissa Bryant.

There will be a recital on June 24 at 3:30 p.m. on Center Stage.

The second week will be dominated by “Hogwarts!” From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, June 27 to July 1, students will learn theatre skills like vocal projection, characterization, listening and collaboration with magical help from the world of Harry Potter, the phenomenally popular science fiction series by JK Rowling. The students will create unique characters, spells, potions, and stories are part of every day, with the acting teacher from Village Theatre, Emily Blackburn.

A small performance will follow on July 1 at 3:30 p.m. on Center Stage.
