And Here We GO!

The 12th annual Spring Give Orcas Campaign launches this coming Wednesday, May 8th and runs through May 17th. WaHOOO!
Give Orcas started as a way to leverage the funds the Orcas Island Community Foundation has to invest in the community each year. OICF recognized that the needs were greater than OICF alone could fill, so the Foundation turned to the community to invite all to pitch in and help fund as many proposals as possible. Individuals give what they can, from $10 to $10,000 or more, to support the programs that make this community so resilient and so vibrant. 100% of all donations goes directly to the programs you support- OICF even pays the credit card fees!
Each proposal was vetted by the Community Grants Committee, a team of volunteers who conduct site visits and review each proposal. This year, there are 25 organizations featured. There are ones that provide arts, culture, and education opportunities. There are programs that serve youth, seniors, veterans, families and critters. Several support essential social services such as access to food, healthcare, and housing. Many are seeking support for building repair and remodels to allow for greater access for all abilities. Chances are, there is one (or more!) proposal in the campaign that is near and dear to you and your family. We hope you will add your support.
Give Orcas is a great community builder, amplifying the amazing efforts that so many nonprofits offer to residents day in and day out. Look for a mailer arriving early next week with all of the details and head to www.giveorcas.org to make your contribution. Together, we make a great difference and the entire community benefits!
The month of May brings great activity! The A*OK Student Art Show opens tonight at 5-6:30 at the Orcas Center. The first Farmers Market of the year is tomorrow on the Village Green. OCRC will be at Island Market from 10-2 collecting household supplies for the Coates Cabinet. Tuesday, the County is hosting a meet and greet with the finalists for the County Manager position from 2:45-3:45 at the Orcas Center.
Hope to see you out and about!
