The Leave No Trace™ Center for Outdoor Ethics has chosen Washington State’s San Juan Islands as only one of eight ‘Hot Spots’ in the entire United States. The organization considers these public lands to be under considerable threat of “irreversible damage” due to recreational activities from public land users.
On Sunday, September 28, the two-person Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will land at our own Moran State Park to conduct a 4-hour training session, which is absolutely free! Upon completion of the training session, participants will receive a special certificate that indicates that the recipient is proficient in Leave-No-Trace philosophy and methods, thereby using these skills in outdoor recreation and education activities on public lands. Plus, you may get the chance to see Bigfoot!
Who Should Attend? Anyone who is interested in public lands and promoting low-impact recreational use of these areas, including public agency officials, students, members of volunteer organizations and NGOs, retirees, teachers, outdoor educators, camp staff members, etc. And anybody with an appetite!
WHERE: Moran State Park Day Use Area (playground, swimming & boat rental area).
WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 from 12:30 to 4:30 PM.
WHAT TO BRING: Yourself and a snack to share (a “snackluck” lunch). Bigfoot is hungry. Prepare for the weather with appropriate clothing.
To RSVP for Workshops please contact the San Juan County Parks Administration office at parks@sanjuanco.com or 360-378-8420.
