— from the Orcas Island Food Bank Board–
Things have been humming right along at the OI Food Bank. The number of clients we serve has averaged 663 individuals a month for the first six months of this year – down from 750 last year. We see this as a hopeful trend but we’ll always be here for those who need us, when they need us.
Fresh summer veggies continue to be generously provided by our amazing Orcas Island farms and home gardeners; and our emergency backup generator and propane tank have been installed and are working, thanks to the many community members who supported our OICF grant and other private donors.
Also, we sincerely appreciate all who participated in the survey that helped us select our new logo! Though the previous one served us very well since 1984, we are very pleased with our fresh “new look.”
The Food Bank Board and the people we serve deeply appreciate all the wonderful gifts and support we receive all year long. Please visit our web site (www.orcasislandfoodbank.org) for additional information, open hours, how to donate and past events that have occurred at the Food Bank – and subscribe to our periodic newsletter by clicking here!
And Come to our Open House! We’re sure there are many members of the community who would like to see the inside of our Food Bank and learn how we distribute food and other essentials to our clients. On Sunday, September 24 from 2 – 4 p.m., the Food Bank will be open to anyone who would like to tour the building, meet our amazing volunteers, and learn a little bit about how we do what we do!
