The weather cooperated. As darkness descended over East Sound on the Fourth of July, a boom announced the beginning of the annual fireworks display.
As the sky lit up, the effect was doubled in the reflection on the water. Observers were treated to a spectacular show. The Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce delivered a “bombs bursting in air” fireworks show that was better than ever.
It is impossible to judge the number of people who see the fireworks each year. Many bring their families and picnic to Waterfront Park. Some are merely step out on their decks to watch from afar, and others watch from aboard their boats in East Sound.
