— from San Juan County Communications —

On February 10, the County Council will consider a request to form a hospital district on Lopez Island. Assuming Council approves the proposition, it will go to the voters for approval on the April 25 Special Election. Also on the April ballot will be the election of five at-large hospital district commissioners.

Persons who live on Lopez Island and have an interest in serving as a hospital district commissioner are encouraged to file. A special candidate filing week is scheduled for the week of February 13 through 17.

During filing week, candidates may submit their filings online, by email, by fax, or in person at the San Juan County Elections Office at 55 Second Street, Friday Harbor, for one of the five commissioner positions. Online candidate filing will be available beginning Monday, February 13 at 9 a.m. through Friday, February 17 at 4 p.m. In person, emailed and faxed filings will be accepted Monday, February 13 at 8 a.m. through Friday, February 17 at 4:30 p.m.

Mailed filings will be accepted only if they are received at the Elections Office no earlier than Monday, January 30, and no later than Friday, February 17. If filing by mail, forms should be mailed to San Juan County Auditor, Elections Office, PO Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
Candidates should consider filing online. Candidates who file online will not only receive confirmation of their filing, but also updates when other candidates file for that office.

Candidates will be able to file from home on their personal computers. Candidates filing online will log onto the Elections webpage at www.sanjuanco.com/elections and navigate to “Candidate Filing Online.”
