||| FROM KIM KIMPLE for ORCAS ISLAND FIRE & RESCUE |||

With the area east of Doe Bay Resort cut off due to road washout from the recent storm, Orcas Island Fire and Rescue was able to dispatch an additional medic with the help of a San Juan County Sheriff’s boat, ensuring emergency Advanced Life Support services continued in the area without disruption. The medic was temporarily housed in the area and was able to respond to multiple 9-1-1 calls throughout the week.

Thanks to the collective community effort in building a footbridge near the Point Lawrence Road washout, Orcas Fire has modified the response plan to that area which includes utilizing Olga and Doe Bay volunteer first responders along with the on-duty Paramedic and EMTs. This plan allows for continued emergency services throughout the island, as well as east of the Point Lawrence divide.

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue remains committed to providing emergency services throughout the community. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the department, email info@orcasfire.org for more information.
