Sunday, October 20, 4 p.m. at the Orcas Center
from Orcas Crossroads Lecture Series
Orcas Crossroads Lecture Series will host two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and columnist David Horsey, who will present – The Last Refuge of Scoundrels – on Sunday, October 20, 2013, 4:00 pm at the Orcas Center.
It has been said that a good editorial cartoonist can produce smiles at the nation’s breakfast tables and, at the same time, screams around the White House. That’s the point of cartooning: to tickle those who agree with you, torture those who don’t, and maybe sway the remainder.
In a lively and visually engaging presentation David Horsey will talk about his cartoons and opinions regarding the debilitating polarization of American politics in the age of Obama. His multi-media presentation will be drawn from his new book, “Refuge of Scoundrels,” which covers the last five raucous years of news events in the U.S. and the world.
David Horsey is a star performer in the narrowing field of editorial cartoonists – earning an increasingly wide audience among newspaper readers; and twice capturing a Pulitzer Prize for cartooning – first in 1999, when many of his cartoons focused on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and again in 2003, when he lampooned the Bush administration.
After a long career at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer David Horsey is now a political commentator for the Los Angeles Times. He is syndicated by Tribune Media Services and his work has appeared in hundreds of media outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, Newsweek and MSNBC.
Tickets are $10 and available at Darvill’s Bookstore, online at www.orcascrossroads.org or at the door.
