They’re back for their third annual Orcas Center blow-out show, their most entertaining yet, a mix of songs, combining fresh arrangements of familiar tunes with original material composed by band members Martin Lund, Gene Nery and Steve Alboucq.
The band’s horn-driven sound, combined with an outstanding rhythm section and lead vocalist, creates one of the most dynamic groups of island musicians ever to hit the Center Stage.
“The Orcas Horns’ sound can be hard to categorize,” says bandleader Steve Alboucq,” but I’ve heard it referred to as Island Soul Music- a distinctive blend of R&B, Latin, jazz and funky rock. We guarantee that we’ll have everybody in the audience clapping their hands, tapping their feet, and moving in their seats.”
As an added treat, the group’s eight regular members – Gene Nery, Steve Alboucq, Martin Lund, Tony Morales, Dimitri Stankevich, Gregory Books, Bruce Russell, and Craig Canine – will be joined for the evening by several special guest artists, including Orcas Island’s own master blues guitarist Lek Thixton, world-class saxophonist Jon Goforth, and Bellingham singer/song-writer Cara Albouqc.
