Monday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m., Orcas Landing

From Tom Tillman

The San Juan Islands Detachment of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be meeting September 10 from 5:30PM to 7:30 PM. The meeting will be held at the Orcas Landing Conference Room which is adjacent to the Orcas Landing County Dock.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather at our detachment’s new rallying point which is the small building on the Orcas Landing County Dock which we have been licensed to use by the County. That building will house the USCGAUX loaner life jackets and boating safety materials as well as serve as a hub for free Vessel Safety Checks.

To help the Detachment celebrate this new location, the Station Bellingham Commander will be coming out with one or two of their new boats. And, the Bellingham Flotilla Commander, Penny Milczewski will also be joining in attendance. This event promises to be a great opportunity to visit the boats, the crews, and other responders/members of our boating community.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is an all-volunteer uniformed part of the United States Coast Guard and is actively involved in numerous boating safety missions here in the San Juan Islands including vessel safety checks, public education, search and rescue.
