||| FROM ORCAS ISLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE |||
You may have heard rumors of the possible cancellations of Washington State Ferries starting either tomorrow (Wednesday) or Friday. There is no definitive word at this time (3:30 pm) as to the likelihood of this happening. Apparently, there is a “crewing issue” that WSF is working to solve.
For whatever reason, if the ferry system is unable to safely staff the fleet of ferries there would be cancellations. The Chamber spoke to San Juan County Council member Cindy Wolf, who is actively in contact with state level representatives to learn more. We also have reached out to the local members of the Ferry Advisory Committee.
If we learn anything more definitive from those above we will email you again. You might also keep the Ferry Alerts Page on the WSF website open. Let’s all hope the issue is resolved without disruptions to our ferry schedule.

Maybe the ferry intermittency issues should make us consider the “carrying capacity” of our islands?
I feel sympathy for the ferry crews. This is a tough time. Funding has been squeezed for many, many years following Tim Eyman’s Initiatives. The pandemic makes everything harder.
