Ferries from Naples and Sorrento had been forced to return to port as mayor described situation as ‘real emergency’

The Italian island of Capri has lifted a ban on tourists after problems with the water supply to the holiday hotspot were resolved.
The ban had been announced early on Saturday, forcing several morning ferries from Naples and Sorrento to return to port.
On Saturday evening, however, the island’s mayor Paolo Falco said the ban had been “revoked” after a technical issue preventing the arrival of water from the mainland had been fixed.
Earlier, he had described the ban as a response to a “real emergency”, saying local tanks were “running out” of water.

Here’s another recent article about overtourism. Barcelona, Spain is planning to terminate over 10,000 vacation rental permits to address a housing and cost-of-living crisis in their city. The mayor calls this “Barcelona’s largest problem.”
Barcelona plans to shut all holiday apartments by 2028

5.7 million people live in Barcelona. The city population rose by .5% last year (increase of 28,500 people) There are 10,101 licensed vacation rental apartments. Do the math; banning those vacation rentals will do virtually nothing to change housing affordability there. There are simply too many people who want to live there for the number of housing units available. Banning all vacation rentals will not provide housing for ONE year of population growth…
Vacation rentals are a convenient scapegoat for politicians who have no actual solutions to housing affordability, here as well as in Barcelona.
