— from Robert Low, SJC Fire Marshal —
Due to the high heat and low fuel moisture levels, all of San Juan County will be at the EXTREME fire hazard level. Therefore, no fires, including recreational fires, are allowed at this time.
UPDATE: August 18, 2016
— from Chief Scott Williams, OIFR —
As of noon on August 17, 2016, the San Juan County Fire Marshal’s Office has issued a county- wide Burn Ban. This ban is in conjunction with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources Burn Ban on forest lands that went into effect at the same time.
All burning within San Juan County is now closed. This ban includes campfires and recreational fires. Recent high temperatures and low humidity levels as well as a state declaration of “High” Fire Risk level in the past weeks has led to warranting this ban.
