Writers’ Workshop for Kids with local children’s author Michele Griskey-Watson .  The workshop is designed primarily for kids in grades 4-8, but are free and open to all.  The workshop runs from 3:15-4:30 p.m. in the school library, and the topic will be “The Great Storytellers”.

Performance Poetry “The Pincushion Orchestra” come to Doe Bay Café. Readings by participants of the Sunday workshop. Free.

Orcas Fire District Commissioners Meeting,7:30 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall.

Marine Science Lecture at Camp Orkila, preceded by free dinner at 5:30 p.m. Gene Helfman will give a free public lecture about the Sharks of the San Juan Islands. Please park in the upper parking lot at Camp Orkila. Shuttle service from the parking lot to the talk is available before and after the lecture.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

Deer Harbor Plan Review Committee public meeting between 3:45 and 5:45 p.m. at the Deer Harbor Community Club, located at 4319 Deer Harbor Road.

Doe Bay Café will host a Slow Food Potluck in honor of Terra Madre Day next Wednesday, Dec. 9th, at 5 p.m. This is a free public event (the café is not open for business).

“Memoir Writing: From Memories to Art “ from 1-3 in the Library. Memories can be springboards for poems, prose, true stories and fiction. Join fellow writers for discussion and memoir-writing activities led by JoEllen Moldoff.All are welcome.

Orcas Choral Society Winter Concert, the “Joyous Sounds of Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. at the Orcas Center.  The program of seasonal music features “Magnificat” by John Rutter as well as familiar carols,  songs from other times and cultures, caroling with the audience, and a wide variety of instrumental accompaniment. Montessori Candlight Spiral Walk,  at 3 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall. The entire community is invited to join in this event which will be hosted by the Orcas Montessori School, the Salmonberry School and the School of the Salish Sea. Free, Donations to Food Bank accepted.
