Metal Artist, Steve Gropp

Metal Artist Steve Gropp has been working with his hands and making some kind of art from very early on in his life. His formal education focused primarily on design through the mediums of drawing, painting, printmaking, carving and ceramics.

His artistic aesthetic is deeply informed by many years and many thousands of miles traveling on foot or by small boat on the wild edges of the North American continent, immersed in the landscapes of coastline, mountains and deserts and the elemental forces that shape them.

For the past thirty years, Steve has been exploring the practical and sculptural possibilities of the hot forging process in metal. This ancient blacksmiths craft uses the transformative power of heat and the force of the hammer’s blow to bend and shape steel to bring one’s vision to reality.

The pieces Steve is displaying for this month’s feature include new copper and steel work, as well as a number of forged door knockers, and an array of candle holders to hopefully bring some light to this darkest of seasons.

Steve’s work will be installed and ready for viewing Saturday, November 30th.

The Artworks is open daily from 10:00 – 4:00 through December 30th.  Closing for a short winter break during January and part of February.
