Auditions for “The Butterfly Effect” Auditions for adults are Monday 4/2 or Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Center Stage at Orcas Center. You do not need to prepare anything for these “auditions” – just come in comfortable clothes ready to read, move and have fun. People ages 16 and up (of any gender / sexual orientation) are encouraged to participate.
Artsmith Salon at Fire Smokehouse and Grill at 7 pm. This month’s featured writer is Seattle poet Tina Schumann who will read new works as well as selections from her collection, “As If.”

Videoconferencing — San Juan County Council considers whether to support designation of BLM lands in the San Juan Islands as a National Conservation Area/National Monument by submitting a letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar supporting these designations. The Council will address this issue at 11:15 a.m. at Council Chamber in Friday Harbor. The videoconference at the Orcas Library will be from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Granny’s Attic Sale Collections, at the Senior Center in Eastsound, one of the Center’s largest fund raising events of the year. Drop off days are Tuesdays n Tuesdays until April 24th. Drop off hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. we will accept gently used items in good condition but no clothing or electronics. We will also accept small pieces of furniture. The Granny’s Attic Sale will be on April 28th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call Jane Heisinger at 376-2677.

Thor Hanson, conversation biologist and author of Feathers to speak at the West Sound Community Club at 6 p.m. Hanson has studied Central American trees and songbirds, nest predation in Tanzania, and the grisly feeding habits of African vultures. Hanson will discuss his latest book, “Feathers”, answer questions, and a book signing will be available at the end of the evening. This event if free of charge, and sponsored by the Orcas Island Library and The Friends of the Orcas Island Library. Books to be purchased will be provided by Darvill’s Book Store. Indian Island Marine Health Observatory Field Research DaysJoin local scientists and community volunteers at Eastsound Waterfront Park in conducting surveys of fish and inter-tidal creatures on low tide days during the spring and summer. Learn about the unique marine life of our home waterfront. 2012 research begins the first Sunday in April with low tide start times as follow:
Beginning this Sunday, April 8 with invertebrate surveys – 11:30 am
~ Monday, April 9 – invertebrate surveys – Noon
~ Tuesday, April 10 – fish seining – 1 pm
~ Wednesday, April 11 – Upland survey (birds, botany)
Everybody is welcome. Meet at the tide pools around the island. Wear appropriate footwear (wet sand, gravel, shallow water), and come on down to the beach!
