Music Lovers Seminar with George Shangrow, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic church. Discover what awaits Chamber Music Festival concert-goers this summer.  George Shangrow, musician, conductor and lecturer, will provide an entertaining and informative overview of the 13th season, August 12 – 28.  Tuition is $30, and ages 10+ are encouraged to attend at no charge.  Bring a brown bag lunch, beverages and treats will be provided.  To register call 376-6636 or email joyce@oicmf.org

Run for Orcas Rec at Moran State Park. Come show your support for the Orcas Rec Program and get in shape for the summer! Walk or run around Cascade Lake to help support upcoming summer programs. The cost will be $25 per person or $100 for a team of five. Meet at the Cascade Lake Picnic Shelter at 11 a.m. for race kickoff and announcements. This will be a fun family event for all ages to enjoy, (childcare will be provided). Farm to Cafeteria Sunday Brunch 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the public school cafeteria. The cafeteria staff, under the watchful eye of Christina Orchid, will be preparing and serving several of the incredible dishes that were prepared by students at the F2C First Ever Student Chef Competition last April.  The program will include a recap of the successes of the program this past year, future plans, and a special presentation by Mandy Randolph and Bruce Orchid on the Farm to Classroom Project.  There will be an opportunity afterwards to tour the School Garden.  The Brunch is free, but donations will be happily accepted.  Seating will be limited to 70 so an RSVP is necessary. Crossroads Lecture Series: Curtis Ebbesmeyer, author of a groundbreaking study of ocean currents, will speak on “The Undiscovered Ocean:  The Sea Surface Hidden in Plain View”.  2 p.m. at the Orcas Center. Tickets are $10 and available at Darvill’s Bookstore and the Orcas Island Public Library.  Advance purchase is recommended.  The lecture will be followed by a question and answer period with the audience and a public reception in the Madrona Room.
