Kaleidoscope 6th Annual “Island Grown, Island Raised” Gourmet Dinner, Wine Tasting & Auction. Begins at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 p.m. Kaleidoscope’s  Board of Directors will host an evening in which everything served is “Island Grown Island Raised,” just like the children whose positive development we support.  The menu will consist of products supplied by local farmers and merchants, all of whom generously donate their wares.  All six courses will be paired with a wine sampling from Lopez Island Vineyards.  The evening culminates with a silent and live auction in which you will be invited to bid on local art and services, even a weekend getaway to Seattle through Kenmore Air with lodging on a Lake Union House Boat.  Tickets are only $50 per person. Whale of a Show 2010 at Orcas Center at 7 p.m.This is a fun and exciting way for Orcas Rec to offer children the opportunity to be on stage. Cruise into History with the Historical Museum Tickets going fast! Food, drink and a Historical Good Time from 1 to 6 p.m.  Narrated by Historian Tom Welch, you will learn about early island names from “The Wilkes Expedition” and local history as we circumnavigate our home, Orcas Island.  Priceless island history is yours as Tom provides history of Orcas Island like you’ve never heard it before!  Departing next to the Orcas Island Ferry Dock with Orcas Island Eclipse Charters.  This event benefits the Orcas Island Historical Museum.  Tickets are only $99 per person, or $165 per couple.  The check-in time on the 12th is 12:30 p.m.  Please call 376-6566

Pet Equipment Swap and Silent Auction at the Orcas Off-Leash Area, a to 4 p.m. Do you have a pet that needs some good used (or new) equipment? The Orcas Off-Leash Area is sponsoring a Pet Equipment Sale at the Off-Leash Area at the corner of Mt. Baker and North Beach roads. The afternoon will also feature games and demonstrations for dogs and their owners and a Silent Auction for great gifts, art, restaurant meals, pet supplies and more from many generous pet supply companies and Orcas Island businesses, all to benefit the Orcas Off-Leash Area. Salmon in the Classroom Benefit. San Juan Nature Institute is holding a Salmon and Sausage benefit picnic from 3-5:30 p.m. Proceeds will support their Salmon in the Classroom program for fourth grade at Orcas Elementary School. The venue is the home of Jim and Kathy Youngren on Olga Road and the festivities will include games for children and visits to the Hatchery and Fish Ladder. Tickets are $30 per person with discounts for couples ($50) and families ($60 for family of four). Tickets will be available  by email science@sjnature.org or calling 378-3646.
