Back L to R: Kai Ross, L’il Mikey the Scarecrow, Myla Ross, Miss Mandy, Trinity Kraayeveld, Christopher Mullan ((front) Diego Lago

By Madie Murray

When asked if Mandy Randolph’s Farm to Classroom kids would like to make a scarecrow to give as a silent auction item at the OIEF Food for Thought Benefit, they answered with a resounding YES!   They gathered clothes, shoes, hats, bandannas, old jeans and lots of straw and went to work.  The result was the creation of several absolutely original and whimsically cute kid-size scarecrows that anyone with a garden would love to call their own.

Well, you will have your chance to bid on not one, but four of these little scarecrow fellas and girls at the Eighth Annual OIEF Food for Thought Benefit May 19, along with several other farm, garden and home items on the Farm to Cafeteria silent auction table.

The Food or Thought Benefit to raise funds for our public school programs is being held at the Discovery House at Rosario starting at 6 p.m.   The cost is $65 per person which includes a delightful “movable feast” of food prepared by local chefs and Student Chef Competition winners and a chance to see all of the incredible works of art our local artists have created from egg forms provided by the Orcas Island Education Foundation specifically for auction at this event.

For particulars on the Benefit go to www.oief.org and click on “events.”
