A fun summer tradition, the annual Orcas Center / Island Market / Lower Tavern Golf Classic at the Orcas Island Golf Course is fast approaching, on September 10. All net proceeds of the Golf Classic support Orcas Center programs and operations.

Organizers of the Golf Classic have increased the fun quotient in this year’s format for everyone’s enjoyment. The Orcas Island Golf Course will be dressed with all sorts of props and sets from Orcas Center productions. Theron Soderlund, the tireless Chair of the event, encourages golfers of all skill levels to participate by offering two tournaments of 9-holes each. The morning tournament which begins at 10 am is for “the more serious golfers” who are focused on their game and enjoy competition in a friendly, fun environment. The 2 pm tournament tee-off is for “us hackers and those who just want to have fun!” Imagine a three person slingshot drive, a croquet green, and a sprinkler on the green. Sound like fun? That’s the plan.

A golfer may choose to play just one or both rounds, and all players enjoy a Burgers & Brew lunch, provided by the Lower Tavern. Following each tournament, prizes will be given to the winning teams and at 5 p.m. Orcatrazz will perform at the Ice Cream Social.

Participation in the morning tournament costs $75 and includes golfing, a goodie bag, continental breakfast, and lunch. The afternoon tournament is $50 per player and includes golfing, a goodie bag, lunch, music and ice cream.  $100 registers you for both. If you are an interested student player we have sponsorships available to cover your participation in the Golf Classic. Please visit the Orcas Island Golf Course to sign up.

For 17 years, the Golf Classic has provided Orcas Center with vital operational funds, and has created a fun day of golfing for both island residents and visitors.
