When Woody Ciskowski was growing up on Orcas Island, his television choices were limited, so the fact that he discovered the alien invasion spoof known as “Top of the Food Chain” was completely by chance.

“About 15 years ago, my father was late-night channel surfing our six channels and he called me down to check out this ‘crazy movie’ he found,” Ciskowski says. “We only saw the second half, but the main character (played by Campbell Scott) and a line about ‘genetically engineered serial killers’ have always stuck with me.”

Fast-forward to 2015, when Ciskowski tracked down a copy of the film and finally watched it all the way through. Inspired by the dialogue, he adapted it into a play, got permission from the Canadian writers to produce it—they didn’t charge him, and even sent him the original script—and committed himself to bringing the obscure movie to the stage…
