— from Tanja Williamson for San Juan County Land Bank —

The Terrestrial Managers Group and the Madrona Institute are thrilled to announce the
winner of the San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate Design Contest: Nancy
Spaulding! A local artist, Ms. Spaulding’s entry, “Evening Passage”, garnered the most
votes out of the 47 entries. And as the winning artist, Nancy will be treated to the
ownership of the 001 San Juan Islands license plate, but we also thank all the talented
local artists who submitted designs. The competition was fierce.

When will the plate be available to purchase? Once the required 3,500 signatures of
Washington state residents are received, Senator Ranker will submit the license plate
bill to the legislature. The campaign is about half way there, with 1,700 signatures on
file, so be sure to keep a look out for signature sheets at local upcoming events, like
October’s Green Home Tours and Fall Farm Tours, or even more convenient – sign
online today at madrona.org.

The San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate will generate grant funds for the
conservation and stewardship of natural, agricultural, historic, and cultural resources in
the San Juan Islands. For more information contact Tanja Williamson at 360-378-4402
