OPALCO’S Annual Meeting on the Ferry Register at the Landing: 8 a.m. Board Ferry: 8:45 a.m.  Return to Orcas: 11:40 a.m. Learn how to be an energy superhero in your own home. Free meal for member families; win great prizes; learn how to save energy & money; Elect the Board of Directors; Take home energy efficiency tools; receive a $5 credit on your bill.

Orcas Island Cider and Mead Festival at the Farmer’s Market starting at 10 a.m.at the Eastsound Village Green Stage. Also, several Orcas homebrews will be judged by the professionals and crowned “Orcas Best of the Fest,” perhaps the first of its kind. Island musicians, Bruce Harvie and the Calvados Brothers, Gene Nery and Martin Lund, and “This is Lizzard” with Lizanne Hennessey and Roland Stolk will be entertaining all day.  Anyone over 21 will be able to taste the ciders and meads for a $5 to $15 donation benefiting the Farm to Cafeteria Program. “Face to Face or Facebook to Facebook” Writer’s Roundtable discussion of the ways we communicate, the media we use, with Margie Doyle, Editor/Publisher of BullWings: Orcas Issues. From 1 to 3 p.m. at the Public Library on Rose Street. All are welcome to participate.

Islands Sinfonia will be performing at the Emmanuel Parish Hall at 1 p.m.  An informal reception with cookies to follow. The concert will run about an hour and include fun works by Bach, Shostakovich, Saint-Saens and Mancini.  Islands Sinfonia, under the baton of Ned Griffin from Shaw, includes musicians from all four ferry-served islands, and three student plays from Orcas.  Admission is free or by donation.

Live music by Jean Mann  at DoeBay Café Noted alt-folk indie-pop singer songwriter, Seattle-based Jean Mann has a lot to write and sing about. Having toured extensively since releasing her first album, blossom (2000), this innovative, self-taught performer shares her soulful, lovely and gritty-honest tales woven through the voice of an angel. 7:30 p.m.  Call the café for reservations at 376-8059.
