Sunday November 29 from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. at the Funhouse
The San Juan County Land Bank, Orcas Island Park and Recreation District and OOLA, the nonprofit operator of the current off leash area, are looking into the feasibility of providing a new, permanent home for the Orcas Off-leash Area, also known as the “dog park”. The new location would be in the northeast corner of Buck Park, near the skate park. The new area would replace the current facility which is temporarily on Port of Orcas property at the corner of North Beach and Mt. Baker Roads.
The groups planning for the new area need your help. Though they have identified a number of advantages for the new location, they need community input to complete the planning. What should the off-leash area look like? What features should it have? How should it be designed to protect the environment?
The groups are holding an Open House to show off the initial plans and ask for community input. The Open House will be held in conjunction with OOLA’s annual Holiday Pet Photos on Sunday November 29 from 10:00 until 3:00 at the Funhouse in Eastsound. Come see the plans and share your opinions and ideas! The draft plans are available online at https://orcasparkandrec.org/?p=2206.

Orcas Port, Pawki’s Deb and Jeff, OI Parks and Rec, OOLA…thanks to all of you for your commitment and hours of work to implement this move..The Land Bank benefactors, it is impossible to thank you enough. This potentiality benefits both canine and human species. Room to park, room to run, shade, separate side for little critters, —fun for all.
OOLA members have dedicated love and time-some of them daily hours–to maintaining and making possible our current dogfriendly place to run and play…whether it is finding funds, raking shavings, keeping fresh water, OOLA does it, and it ain’t easy. Our Orcas community, coming together again, and making it work. Ruff!
