Whale of a Show auditions — Elementary, middle and high school students are asked to share their talents – song, dance, comedy, acrobatics, magic, juggling, flame-throwing – whatever! – at try-outs for the May 21 show. Auditions at the Center at 11 a.m.
Writer’s Roundtable 1 to 3 p.m. at the Library. Conversation about the writing process as it relates to all kinds of writing – fiction, poetry, memoir, creative non-fiction, journaling. All are welcome. Free.

Music Lovers Seminar with George Shangrow ” Be Ready for Festival ’09″ will take place at St. Francis Catholic Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuition is $20. Orcas Island Writers Festival cooking class and dinner: Coming to Our Senses, with Bill Patterson. The all-day event will begin with a guided tour of the Eastsound Farmers’ Market from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by a three-hour cooking class with Chef Patterson. From 4:30 to 5:30 Rhonda Barbieri of La Campesina Project will lead the discussion, “From Farm to Table.” Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The Island Sinfonia presents its Mother’s Day spring concert at 3 p.m. at the Orcas Center. The program will feature Symphony No. 8 by Franz Schubert and Symphony No. 9 (first movement) by Franz Schubert, and The Quiet City by Aaron Copland.
