Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers world premiere at Friday Harbor Film Festival

FHFF is honored and excited to be chosen to premiere Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers! Screenings at the San Juan Community Theatre’s Whittier Theatre will be Saturday, October 26 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, October 27 at 1:00 PM.

Producer Philip Grabsky is flying in from London to attend the world premiere and answer your questions about the film. This film is in-theatre only and will not be available online.

Van Gogh is not only one of the most beloved artists of all time but perhaps the most misunderstood. This film uses Van Gogh’s revealing letters to better understand this iconic figure. The most exciting and dramatic period of Van Gogh’s life is explored on the big screen.

Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers
200 years after its opening and a century after acquiring its first Van Gogh works the National Gallery is hosting the UK’s biggest ever Van Gogh exhibition. Made in close collaboration with the National Gallery, this film is a chance to reexamine and better understand this iconic artist. Focusing on his unique creative process, Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers explores the artist’s years in the south of France, where he revolutionized his style. Van Gogh became consumed with a passion for storytelling in his art, turning the world around him into vibrant, idealized spaces and symbolic characters. The film explores how his desire to tell stories produced a landscape of poetic imagination and romantic love, and how this obsession in part caused his notorious breakdown.

Opening Night Gala Honoring Filmmakers Friday, October 25 at 6:30 pm
This is a not-to-be-missed evening — an exclusive party that celebrates all filmmakers in attendance! Gala tickets cost $75 and include food and drink plus the opening night’s program. Special events include presentation of the Andrew V. McLaglen Lifetime Achievement Award to San Juan Islander Morten Lauridsen, performance of his composition, Contre Qui Rose, by the San Juan Master Chorale led by Amber Lauridsen, and screening of Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen.

If you prefer to attend only the program, 100 tickets are available for $15. The program-only audience will be admitted at 7:50 pm. Gala tickets and program-only tickets are available at fhff.org/tickets. Order yours before they sell out!
