Chinook helicopters land at Port of Orcas runways on June 13 as part of Emergency Exercise

Two Chinook helicopters flew into cloudy Orcas airspace this morning, right on schedule at 11:30 a.m. and successfully completed the Emergency Exercise.

On Orcas and San Juan Islands, the exercise was a simulation of medical  re-supply to local clinics. Elsewhere in the Western Washington region, the exercise included medical volunteers and installation of an emergency generator.

The effort was aimed at making Washington State better prepared to restore emergency power following a disaster, all part of the mulit-agency Evergreen Logistics Exercise, June 12-14, the second phase of the 2012 Evergreen Quake Exercise Series, coordinated by the Departments of Emergency Management,  Homeland Security and Health and Social Services.
