There’s always something happening at the Exchange

The Exchange has partnered with Bellingham-based A-1 Shredding to offer secure document destruction. Customers can drop off documents in secure, locked bins located at The Exchange. A-1 Shredding will periodically bring its mobile shredding truck to Orcas Island to destroy the collected materials. The shredded paper will be transported to the mainland to be turned into new paper products.

This year’s Great Islands Cleanup showed that community stewardship goes beyond picking up litter. Orcas Island’s dedicated neighborhood teams, including the Olga Garbage Gardeners, Highland Hikers, and Westsound Posse, helped keep local roads clean – and turned one volunteer’s roadside find into an unexpected happy ending. Thanks to our amazing volunteers for caring for our island and each other!

Just a friendly reminder that we require reservations when dropping off donated items at The Exchange.

• We only accept items on Fri & Sun between 10am-3pm, by reservation
• Please only bring “like new” or “ready to use” items
• Clothing intake is extremely limited – we will only accept “like-new” items
• Bringing items in cardboard boxes or brown paper shopping bags is always helpful
• We have the right to refuse any items due to space limitations; accepted items subject to change.

A generous local family has offered to match every dollar donated toward The Exchange’s new Styrofoam Densifier – up to $2,500, through the end of the year.

This equipment will dramatically shrink the bulky white packing material we receive every day, making it far easier and more efficient to recycle.

Your gift goes twice as far right now. Help us unlock the full $2,500 match!
