Orcas Island Parks and Recreation District Public Meeting to hear from organizations or individuals who have an interest in providing leisure or recreational activities of a non-profit nature for consideration in the scope of activities that the District is considering.  Please bring a general description of your activity, the approximate cost and the community benefit associated with your program.  At the Orcas Island Fire Department from 1 to 3 p.m.

Artsmith & Doe Bay Café  Weekly Salon Series 7 p.m.This week features the talents of Orcas novelist Keary Taylor as she reads from her recently published book, Branded.  Taylor will be joined by Tom Davis reading poetry.  Following the featured writers, audience members will have an opportunity to read their own works in a special Writer’s Open Mic.  All lovers of food, wine and words are welcome!   Performance begins at 7 p.m. Call 376-8059.

Orcas Business Forum to discuss Fire Marshal 7:45 a.m. coffee / 8 to 9 a.m. Discussion and Q&A at Outlook Inn’s Victorian Room. Discussion to include the fees associated with a business safety code inspection with guests Paul Turner (Fire Marshal for Orcas Island) and Mike Harris (Fire Chief, San Juan County Fire Protection District #2, Orcas Island). John Louton will begin a 7-week course titled “An Introduction to Chinese Philosophy”.  This class will begin this Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 am. Class size is limited, cost is $5.

Writer’s Roundtable from 1 to 3 p.m. “Spring Into Poetry!” In celebration of National Poetry Month, we will devote this month’s Roundtable to appreciating poetry through imaginative reading and discussion of poetic language and form. All are welcome.
