One downside to living on a remote island is not having access to health and wellness technology that mainlanders have. That’s why The Studio On Orcas is excited to announce that they are now providing Red Light Therapy (RLT) services. Red Light Therapy is a science-backed non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to promote overall well-being.
Studio owner Heidi Alexander and Pilates instructor Melissa Rodriguez researched and tried Red Light Therapy, finding it helpful with a number of health challenges, including osteoarthritis, joint pain, and chronic fatigue. They knew immediately everybody should have access to it, but it’s expensive for an individual to purchase a machine, so the two of them invested in one together to ensure islanders and our island doctors, physical therapists, and other health practitioners have access to this new technology.
The Red Light Therapy (RLT) device at The Studio on Orcas is manufactured by Joov, and its use is recommended by Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Andrew Huberman. RLT has recently been in the news for its use by NFL football teams for muscle recovery and celebrities for its positive impact on skin, hair, and weight issues. RLT helps improve overall health by improving blood flow to damaged tissues for better healing. Studies have shown it can help promote better sleep by counteracting the harmful effects of blue light from screens which can inhibit sleep and hormone production. Red Light Therapy can also improve skin and weight loss by helping your cells produce energy & regenerate faster. When your cells are working more efficiently, your skin looks better and you have improved metabolic processes. RLT positively impacts mood by stimulating the production of serotonin, the chemical responsible for feelings of happiness and well-being.
The Studio on Orcas offers an array of healing modalities. Heidi Alexander shares her inspiration: “We have a tremendous ability to affect change, to heal what needs healing, and to live well in our bodies and minds. The Studio on Orcas is proud to support islanders and visitors with Gyrotonics, Pilates, Craniosacral Therapy, other healing modalities, and now Red Light Therapy,”
Multiple practitioners, trainers, teachers, and massage therapists work out of The Studio on Orcas, including Heidi Alexander, Lauren Weaver, and Melissa Rodriguez who provide weekly private and group classes. Virtual and in-person coaching in neo-tantric practices, relationships, and somatic techniques are also offered. More information is available at www.thestudioonorcas.com/red-
