— from Linda Lyshall, PhD, for San Juan Islands Conservation District —
The Orcas Island Youth Conservation Corps (OIYCC) is gearing up for another season! Willie Clancy is on board this year as the new OIYCC coordinator. Several students have applied for this summer’s program and we have lots of great projects lined up.
The Youth Conservation Corps will start the season with team building exercises, tool and safety training, and First Aid/CPR training. Projects will include habitat restoration, trail work in Moran State Park, intertidal monitoring on our beaches, and more. All projects include environmental education and lots of fun. There are also overnight camping trips involved.
Our projects are funded through agencies, foundations, and generous community donations. If you would like to help fund one of our local projects at the Orcas Village Green wetland, please check out the Give Orcas grant drive through the Orcas Island Community Foundation. Donations are accepted until May 19. Just click HERE for more information.
