Free Training Begins April 13-14 in Deer Harbor

From San Juan Islands Scenic Byway Partnership

People For Puget Sound is bringing a Sound Stewardship program to Orcas Island.

Class topics will include an introduction to shoreline ecology, native plant identification, invasive plant control techniques, maintenance and monitoring protocols, and volunteer management.

Four additional training sessions will be held April-November; new Stewards can join throughout the year and participation in all classes is not mandatory. A Sound Stewardship orientation will be held the evening of April 13th, and the first class session is on Saturday April 14th.

Both events will be in Deer Harbor, where they have been working at the Cayou Lagoon restoration site for almost a decade. To sign up for trainings, or for more information, see www.pugetsound.org/sound-stewardship or contact North Sound Restoration Ecologist Rachel Benbrook at rbenbrook@pugetsound.org, 360-230-1353.
