Sunday, July 29, 1 – 5 p.m., San Juan Islands Museum of Art
— from Diane Martindale for San Juan Islands Museum of Art —
The San Juan Islands Museum of Art (SJIMA) is sponsoring a unique workshop for artists who want the best possible photos of their art. Artists often need high-quality photographs for references, submissions for exhibitions, to sell or license their art, copyright protections, for documentation, and use in mixed media creations.
SJIMA offers this special class on Sunday, July 29 for artists working in any 2D or 3D media to learn more about camera handling, settings, lighting, and lenses.
Celebrated instructor, Ray Pfortner of Vashon Island has extensive experience in photography and the business of art in the Photography Certificate Program at the University of Washington. He also teaches for the Pacific Northwest Art School and Daniel Smith Artist Supply Stores.
People of all skill levels working with any digital camera are welcome.
The class will be presented at SJIMA 540 Spring Street in Friday Harbor, WA from 1-5 p.m. The class costs $75 and $65 to museum members. Register online at www.sjima.org under “Learn.” Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
The students are asked to bring samples of their art, any merchandise they have made from their art, their camera, and all their questions.
Pfortner is an expert at improving opportunities for artists. For more information about Ray visit www.RayPfortner.com.
This workshop is offered in conjunction with the photography exhibit Viva Cuba! at the San Juan Community Theatre Gallery, opening July 13 and on display until August 31, 2018. The exhibit includes photographs taken by 24 artists on trips that Ray led to Cuba in 2016 and 2017.
SJIMA offers many learning experiences for the community and artists, whether experienced or beginners, adults or children. Visit the Conversations With Gee’s Bend exhibition now at the museum Thursday-Mondays 11-5. SJIMA admission is $10 and free to members and those 18 and under. Mondays are Pay As You Can Days.
