Sheriff’s Office Moves into New Substation on Lopez Island
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office’s substation on Lopez Island is getting a new home. Now located at 2467 C Fisherman Nay Rd, the new substation is situated behind the Public Works building and equipment shed. 2026 Candidate Filing Week: May 4 Through May 8
If you have ever wanted to be an elected official, now is your opportunity. Candidates who wish to run for office this year can submit their names for the ballot during the upcoming candidate filing period from May 4 to May 8, 2026. During filing week, candidates may submit their filings online, by email, by fax, or in person at the San Juan County Elections Office at 55 Second Street, Suite A, Friday Harbor. San Juan County Launches New Program to Support Islanders in Recovery
San Juan County is launching a new pilot program designed to provide direct financial support to islanders engaged in active treatment for or recovery from opioid use disorder. The Opioid Addiction Recover Support (OARS) program helps cover essential living expenses for up to 90 days, including assistance with securing stable housing. Funding for OARS comes from the opioid settlement funds allocated to San Juan County. Learn more: https://sanjuancountywa.gov/m/
Odlin County Park to Celebrate 100 Years as a Public Park
The San Juan County Parks and Fair Department is planning a handful of events this summer to mark the centennial celebration at Odlin County Park. All events will take place in the park and are free for the public to attend. See the full list: https://sanjuancountywa.gov/m/
Be ‘Plastic Free in the Salish Sea’ This Boating Season!
Did you know, the plastic on a single 25ft boat is the equivalent of 2,060 plastic bags – or the amount an average American uses in 5 ½ years?! The San Juan County Department of Environmental Stewardship and Plastic Free Salish Sea are piloting a recycling program to make it easy for people to recycle the plastic film on their shrink-wrapped boats. The pilot program is offering a limited number of free Dr. Shrink Recycling Bags for boaters to put their clean, properly prepared plastic wrap in. Interested? Community Engagement Continues for Odlin County Park Facility Upgrades
The San Juan County Parks, Recreation, & Fair Department is seeking to construct a new facility to serve as a visitor contact station, maintenance facility, and office for park rangers on Lopez Island at Odlin County Park. The community has been invited to provide feedback via two community meetings, a Parks & Rec Commission meeting, and an upcoming Council meeting. Community recommendations will be presented to Council and additional comments will be welcomed during the May 12 Council meeting on Lopez. Read more: https://sanjuancountywa.gov/m/
