Tuesday, July 4 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall

— from John Henry Watson —

Deobrat and Prashant Mishra

Once a year a unique event happens on the island which, in past years, has been lightly attended or [perhaps not] known about, but which has left a lasting and uplifting impression on those who were there.

The event? A concert by Indian classical sitar master Deobrat Mishra, accompanied by his nephew Prashant Mishra on tabla. For a short video from Pandit Mishra’s recent San Francisco performance please click here.

In contrast to the formal concert halls of India, Europe and the U.S. where Pandit Mishra regularly performs, the Orcas event is held in the informal, intimate setting of the Oddfellows Hall in Eastsound where the audience is, in effect, backstage with the musicians.

The concert is at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Tuesday, 4th July. As a bonus, the Oddfellows’ deck provides prime viewing of the fireworks following the concert. Tickets are $23 in advance or $28 at the door. Proceeds support the non-profit DAYA Foundation and the Benares Academy of Indian Classical music.
