Islands Sinfonia at a previous concert on Lopez Island. The Sinfonia will perform at the Orcas Center on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m.

The Island Sinfonia is concluding their 2009/2010 season with a spring concert at the Orcas Center on Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m.

The chamber orchestra, with instrumentalists from Orcas, Lopez, Shaw, and San Juan islands, and Bellingham, will perform movements from Beethoven’s Third Symphony,  The English Folk Song Suite, Norfolk Rhapsody, and The London Symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a jazz piece for winds by Alec Wilder and Finlandia by Sibelius.

A public reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $10 for adults and children and students are free. Tickets may be purchased at the Orcas Center Box Office.

The Island Sinfonia is the only chamber orchestra in the San Juan Islands and  is open to musicians who enjoy playing and performing light classical and contemporary music.  Students are always welcome. Every year the orchestra performs on Orcas, Lopez, Shaw, San Juan islands including the MAG concert on Orcas which benefits the Orcas Island School music program.

This spring, Island Sinfonia was included in the concert with  Orcas A Cappella which featured all Ralph Vaughan Williams music.
