A Deputy on Orcas responded to a callback about a possible order violation. After reading the order and speaking with the protected party it was found that no crime had been committed.

A Lopez Island resident turned in a backpack that was found laying along Ferry Rd. The backpack is being held pending identification of the rightful owner.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of trespassing at the Trout Lake Reservoir. The subjects were identified and were issued trespass letters.
21-006692 Trouble Unknown 19:34:28 07/28/21
Deputies responded to a Lopez Island residence on for a trouble unknown call that involved what sounded like a caller who was potentially in danger. It was determined that everyone at the residence where the 911 call originated was OK and that the call was accidental. A report was completed.

Lopez Island Deputies went to the area of Weeks Point Way for a welfare check. The caller reported seeing two males on the beach who appeared to be hallucinating. The Deputies were able to locate one of the individuals and determined that he was OK and not hallucinating. A report was completed.

A Lopez Island Deputy received a dog that was found in the Lopez Island Village. The dog was immediately returned to the owner who was out looking for her.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of a non-injury accident. The incident was documented.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of vandalism at Friday Harbor Elementary School. Fingerprints were lifted from the scene and were sent to the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory for examination.

An Orcas Island Deputy investigated an illegal dumping on private property near Island View Rd. & Osprey Ln. An investigation was conducted but no suspect located. A report for documentation was taken.

A visitor called about a dog roaming near Watmough Bay. The owner was notified of their dogs whereabouts.

An Orcas Island Deputy investigated an allegation of animal abuse. The investigation found no credible evidence of abuse and no crime committed. A report was authored for documentation of the allegations.

A Lopez resident called about suspicious vehicles near a boat launch. The owners were contacted via phone and identified as outer-island residents.

San Juan Deputies were contacted by a father who reported a possible out-of-state contact order violation. The caller was advised to report the possible violation to the other party’s local agency.

Deputies on Orcas Island were dispatched to a kayaker in distress on Blakely Island. The kayaker was located and found to be deceased due to injuries received from a fall while climbing Blind Bluff. The coroner was contacted and an investigation was completed.

A Lopez Deputy assisted a Lopez citizen in obtaining a lost passport and other important documentation.

Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a reported domestic assault. One of the involved parties was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
FRIDAY, JULY 30

A Deputy was dispatched to an Unwanted Person in the Friday Harbor area. The person was no longer in the area. Trespass letters were signed for two locations to be served. Report taken.

San Juan Deputies responded to a report of a male with a knife, stabbing pallets at a local business. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the business, who wished to trespass the male. A trespass letter was issued and the male left the property.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of a dog left in a vehicle on a hot day. The owner was issued an infraction for leaving a dog in an unattended vehicle.

A Deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of fraud. The reporting party was contacted and advised of some suspicious activity with their bank account. The reporting party did not want to pursue any law enforcement action.

A Deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a theft. The reporting party was contacted and it was found that there was not a theft and it was a result of miscommunication.

A San Juan Deputy recovered multiple debit cards and identification cards left at a local business. The items were entered into evidence for safekeeping.
SATURDAY, JULY 31

San Juan Deputies responded to an altercation outside of a bar. Numerous people left the area prior to arrival. No victims present wished to pursue the case; the suspect was trespassed from the bar. This case is still under investigation.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of an order violation. No violation appears to have occurred and the incident was documented.

An Orcas Island Deputy took a theft report. A delivery package containing approximately $50.00 worth of make-up was stolen from a mailbox near Orcas Rd. & Indralaya Rd. There is no suspect information and no investigative leads.

A Deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a lost drone. The item was listed in property as missing.

A San Juan Deputy responded to a report of found property. The items were entered into evidence for safekeeping.

A Lopez Island Deputy was called to help identify the owner of a boat that took possession of a marina slip without a reservation or payment. Information was provided to management for them to follow up.
21-006798 Traffic Violation 14:53:39 07/31/21
A Lopez Island was given an anonymous traffic complaint of a racing style motorcycle traveling south on Mud Bay Rd. As the Deputy came into the area, a similar motorcycle was seen going north at normal speeds. The driver stopped to talk to the Deputy about safe operation. No action was taken.

A Deputy on San Juan Island observed a double parked vehicle with over six month expired tabs on Guard St. The vehicle was posted for 24 hour removal and issued an infraction for double parking.

21-006815 Suspicious Person/Circumstance 10:28:25 08/01/21
A Lopez Island Deputy was called to check on suspicious circumstances occurring at Spencer Spit State Park. The issue was resolved by park staff before the Deputy arrived.
21-006817 Assault – Body Force 13:08:15 08/01/21
A Deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of an assault and trespassing. The incident was investigated and probable cause for assault 4th degree, assault 4th degree DV and trespass 1st degree was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for charging decision.

A Lopez Island resident turned in a found wallet to the sheriff’s office just in time for its owner to come looking for it, very relieved to get it back with contents intact.

A Lopez Island Deputy took a fraud report from a local resident about an online scam.

San Juan Deputies responded to a report of a structure fire. The caller was found to be in crisis due to drug use. They attempted to get Deputies to shoot them and were armed with a knife. After 3 1/2 hours, a Deputy convinced them to discard the knife and they were taken to the hospital for treatment.

A Lopez Island Deputy was sent to check on the sound of possible explosions in the area of the gravel pit. A group of target shooters were contacted, who said they had been shooting some large caliber weapons.
MONDAY, AUGUST 2
21-006839 Area Check 00:17:15 08/02/21
An Orcas Island Deputy conducted an area check at the West Sound County Dock. At about 0020 hours there was a vessel located at the dock which had been issued numerous infractions for unlawful overnight moorage before. The Deputy issued the vessel an infraction.
21-006842 Mental Health 02:03:39 08/02/21
A San Juan Deputy was dispatched to a report of a mental issue. The caller was in crisis and needed someone to talk to. The Deputy met with the caller and spoke at length with them. They were able to work through the crisis, were advised of resources for the future, and given a ride home.

A Deputy on Orcas responded to a single vehicle accident with no injury on Orcas Road. Orcas Fire and EMS conducted traffic control till the vehicle could be towed and checked the driver of the vehicle, who had no injuries.

A Deputy was contacted at the Sheriff’s Office in reference to Found Property. A bike was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office. The bike was entered into evidence.

A Deputy on San Juan Island took possession of a found backpack. The backpack was entered into the evidence system.

A Deputy in Friday Harbor was contacted by U.S. Marshals for assistance in locating a wanted person they were looking for. The Deputy located the wanted person and arrested him on the warrant without incident. The person was booked into jail awaiting a warrant extradition hearing.

Orcas Island Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a single vehicle injury collision. The incident occurred on private property. The driver and passenger suffered only minor injuries. The vehicle owner arranged to have the vehicle towed.

A San Juan Deputy took a report of harassment by a domestic partner. No crime was committed, and the Deputy performed a stand-by detail to assure the peace.

An Orcas Island Deputy was dispatched to a death investigation. An NJA was on file. A report was taken.

A Deputy on San Juan Island was flagged down and advised of a missing juvenile. A search party was formed and located the juvenile who was reunited with the parent.

A Deputy was contacted in reference to a Domestic in the San Juan Island area. The person advised the incident was verbal only but wanted it documented. Report taken.

A Deputy was contacted in reference to a Fraud in the San Juan Island area. The person reported an item that was ordered on the Internet had been forwarded to another address. Report taken.
21-006897 Traffic Violation 17:07:35 08/03/21
A Lopez Deputy stopped a vehicle that was drifting over the centerline. The driver, not intoxicated, claimed they had a hyper dog that needed to urinate, which distracted them. The driver was given a warning for driving left of center. The dog safely made it to a grass patch during the stop.

A Lopez Island Deputy responded to Bayshore Road for a suspicious person complaint. The reporting person said they saw a man digging in an odd spot. It was determined the person was hired by the county to eliminate noxious weeds. The Deputy thanked the man for removing the pernicious weeds.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4

In the early morning hours an Orcas Island Deputy along with a Park Ranger were dispatched to a mental call at one of the campsites in Moran State Park. The individual was deemed not to be a danger to himself or others and was left in the care of his family members on site.

Orcas Island Deputies responded to a call of several men with guns near Guthrie Cove. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. No crime was committed, and an incident report was authored.
21-006952 Domestic Dispute or Assault 22:34:13 08/04/21
San Juan Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance. Investigation determined no crime took place. One party was provided with a courtesy transport into town and a report was filed.
