— a review by Margot Shaw —
Last Saturday, the Lundeen Room at the Senior Center was filled with the sounds of social chatter, multi-generational families discussing weighty and frivolous matters, and those voicing their appreciation for the fabulous brunch they were enjoying.
I was partial to the Eggs Benedict and the Strawberry Ricotta Blintzes, created by chef Christina Orchid. Chefs Jay Savell (regular chef for the three weekly meals) and Ian Cassinos prepared other yummy offerings. Serving cafeteria style meant we could come back for more…and we did.
This was, appropriately, a fund raiser for the Meals on Wheels program, which is funded through a combination of grants, client donations, San Juan County, federal funding, and our own Orcas Island Senior Center non-profit. It’s a team effort! Last year, our Senior Center served over 8,000 sit-down lunches and delivered over 2,000 fresh cooked meals to homes all over Orcas 3 times a week, transported by volunteer drivers. Over 140 people came to the annual Spring Brunch to help support Meals on Wheels on Orcas. Thank you.
Donations towards Meals on Wheels will always be gratefully received, but you won’t get as satisfying a reward as we did on Saturday.
